What Is the EGR System?

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) sends a portion of exhaust gases back into the intake manifold to lower combustion chamber temperature and reduce NOx emissions.

EGR Valve Faults and Symptoms

• Loss of engine performance: Power drop and unresponsive throttle
• Excessive smoke: Black or gray smoke from the exhaust
• Rough idle: Engine vibration and irregular running
• Check engine light: Malfunction indicator illumination
• Increased fuel consumption: Engine running inefficiently

How Is EGR Delete Performed?

EGR delete is performed through engine control unit software. EGR valve operating parameters are disabled so the valve remains closed. Dirty gas no longer enters the intake manifold and the engine runs on cleaner air.
